Camp Meeting is a religious tradition in America amongst Protestant Christians like Seventh-day Adventists. Large tents would travel across America with evangelists speaking nightly for weeks at a time. Camp Meetings were a defining feature of the Second Great Awakening (c. 1790s–1830s), a religious revival throughout early America in response to the Age of Enlightenment (c. 1685–1815).

Seventh-day Adventists have continued the tradition of Camp Meeting, holding yearly events in various places around the US. For Adventists in some cities, Camp Meeting is just a few nights and often in a gymnasium or other venue. Here in Maine, we have stuck with the tradition of meeting in large tents, and some of us even camp in traditional canvas tents. We do this for the enjoyment and tradition, often drawing folks from out of state to spend 9 days in 1800's era "luxury".

Our Camp Meeting will usually see around 1,500 people on campus for the Saturday morning church service while nightly we'll see around 300-400. Yes, it’s a majority of Seventh-day Adventist members, but nobody knows who is or isn't. All we know is that we are there to worship God and to learn more about Him. We try our best to obtain a welcoming atmosphere for anyone seeking Jesus. In the evenings, we also have children's programs available for ages 7+.

You may discover that we have many other meetings happening throughout the 9 days of June 20-28, including seminars, outings, outreach, concerts, and other activities. These events are also open to the public (we do not hold exclusive events), but the seminars and other presentations can go very deep into religious subjects that those unfamiliar with our movement may find intimidating. Because of this, we do not advertise those events to the general public, but you are still welcome to attend them.

Some examples of things that you may find interesting that we don't advertise loudly:
  • Buy a meal ticket and eat vegan & vegetarian food in the cafeteria. Yum!
  • Teens can join the Teen division on an outing to "Fun Town Splash Town".
  • Attend the concerts on both Saturday's at 3:45pm in the Main Tent.
  • This year the Young Adults are adding a "Practical Adulting" presentation (finances, time management, meal prep on a budget, etc)  in the weekday mornings.
  • Wake up early with singing and prayer in the Prayer tent for their well attended meeting at 6:30am.
If any of this sounds interesting to you. Just show up! No registration. No requirement to talk to anyone.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • Do I have to register?
No, meeting attendance is open and free.
  • Where can I park my car?
Parking will be clearly marked when you arrive. Parking attendants should be present. Please park in designated areas only. All parking is free.
  • Will I be asked for money?
Not directly. An offering will occur during the program but nobody is guilted or watched while the buckets are passed. This is completely free will. These days, many give online anyway. Additionally there may be fundraising projects spoken about up front but these are to let our members know where money is going.
  • Can I attend other events besides what's listed on this page?
Yes, all of our events are open to the public.
  • Can I sell or solicit something for my ministry?
Solicitation, selling, and signage of any type is not allowed without prior written approval by NNEC Administration/Camp Meeting Committee.
  • What is the Northern New England Conference?
The Northern New England Conference is part of the Seventh-day Adventist Church. Our Conference covers all church owned entities in the states of Maine, New Hampshire, and Vermont. We have around 60 churches, 9 elementary schools, 1 academy, and 1 summer camp.
  • What do Seventh-day Adventists Believe?
We uphold the Protestant conviction of Sola Scriptura (Bible only). Seventh-day Adventists accept the Bible as their only creed and hold certain fundamental beliefs to be the teaching of the Holy Scriptures. These beliefs constitute the church’s understanding and expression of the teaching of Scripture. The expression of these concepts help provide an overall picture of what this Christian denomination collectively believes and practices. Together, these teachings reveal a God who is the architect of the world. In wisdom, grace and infinite love, He is actively working to restore a relationship with humanity that will last for eternity.
The 28 Fundamental Beliefs can be organized into six categories of doctrine: God, man, salvation, the church, daily Christian life, and last-day events (restoration). View the Beliefs of the Seventh-day Adventist Church at www.adventist.org/beliefs
